The first Bulgarian Urbanathlon organized by Men's Health magazine is already a fact. The legendary contest of endurance and survival in urban environment was held on 1 June in Sofia in cooperation with Sofia Municipality, Raiffeisen Bank, Adidas and Gillette.
Almost 600 participants started in the park behind the Museum "Earth and Man" and ran a 7 km route passing through the National Palace of Culture, blvd "Vitosha", the cathedral "St. Alexander Nevski" , the garden “Knyazhevska”, blvd. "Evlogi i Hristo Georgievi."
The participants had to cope with 8 tricky urban challenges specially built for the competition. They included: passing through tires, crossing a labyrinth path of metal railings, creeping under a military net, passing through an old bus, jumping over a two-meter-long wall, climbing stairs, porting an 8 kg. bag of sand and jumping enclosures.
Despite of its difficulty Urbanathlon was joined by nearly 30 women. The fastest of them went the route in 30 minutes and won a special award from one of the general sponsors of the event - Adidas.
Men took first three places. In third place was awarded 17-year-old Alexander Yotovski who ran the route and passed all the challenges in 22 minutes and 48 seconds and won a check for 400 BGN. In second place, with 22 minutes and 22 seconds, was Yolo Nikolov who won a prize check for 600 BGN. Mitko Nikolov ranked first with only 1 percentage point difference. He became the star of the first Bulgarian Urbanathlon of Men's Health and won the big prize of 1000 BGN and the latest model running shoes: Adidas Boost.
After the contest the bands 7EDEM and Ostava delighted the audience and the tired participants and despite of the weather made attendees to smile.
